Poetry Contest

This Years Theme is

Black Metamorphosis

We are looking for poems that channel the creativity, energy, and sense of survival that come from being Black.

Black people have lived through the peaks and valleys of history and are entering an era of change. As a poet ask yourself, what ways can you intrinsically link change to Black culture? Here are some fun ideas!

  • Channel the mystery and glamour of Black beauty and how it has evolved and changed.
  • Ponder the ways that the national and international conversation surrounding black issues has shifted.
  • Force yourself to be introspective, enter into the shadows, and see how you as an individual have reinvented yourself within the context of Blackness.

Whatever you write, poetically depicts the notion of change and Black metamorphosis.
